At first launch, not at a paywall. The month runs from the moment you install, so you set your targets and log your first days without ever meeting a price. The subscription sheet only appears once the month is up and you go to log again.

No. Gemel has no sign-in at all. Your subscription is tied to the Apple Account already signed in to the App Store, which is what makes restoring on a new device, using it across your devices, and Family Sharing all work without a login screen.

Where Apple Intelligence is available, yes. You can describe a meal in a sentence — two eggs, toast and a latte — and Apple's on-device model itemises it and estimates its calories and protein. Without it, Describe a meal still works in English: Gemel looks each item up in USDA and Health Canada food data stored on your phone. Either way the estimate fills the pad for you to check and change, because estimates can be off — check them against a label when you have one. It never logs on its own, what you type is processed on your phone and never leaves it, and no meal names are kept. We may add more AI features later. Typing a number or tapping a usual amount still works exactly as it always has.

Gemel keeps USDA and Health Canada food data on your phone, and Describe a meal uses it to find the number for you. Scan label reads a nutrition label with your camera. What Gemel is not is a food diary: there is no database to browse or keep up, and an entry is kept as plain figures with no meal name. Barcode scanning is not in Gemel today.

You lose logging, not the app. Every screen stays readable — your days, your streaks, your awards, your pairings. Nothing is deleted: your data lives in your own iCloud, so resubscribing later puts everything back exactly where it was.

They need their own subscription to log their own days — but an invite never opens on a price tag. Anyone who installs Gemel from your invite gets their own free month first.

A gemel is an old heraldry term for a pair of bars drawn side by side — two things that only count together. That is the whole app in one word: two goals that make a day only when both are hit, and, if you pair, two people whose streak only continues when you both do. It is also what a hit day is called inside the app.

No. Pairing is optional and always will be. Your own streaks, awards and personal bests are complete on their own; a pairing adds a second streak on top, and you can have several or none.

Any time, in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Apple handles the proration; Gemel is not involved and does not need to be.

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, so refunds are too — request one through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Gemel's developer cannot issue them directly, and never sees your payment details.
